Samoan Coconut Trees

History

The history of Samoan coconuts is deeply connected to Samoan mythology, especially the legend of Sina and the Eel, which explains the origin of the first coconut tree. Coconuts are referred to as the tree of life in Samoa because every part of the tree is used for food, shelter, clothing, and cultural ceremonies. Different varieties are cultivated for specific uses, like thatch for housing or especially sweet water.

Why Samoan Coconuts

Samoan coconut trees are distinct because of varieties like the Samoan Tall and dwarf types. The dwarf trees are precocious, meaning they produce coconuts much earlier and closer to the ground, while the tall variety is valued for producing very high-quality oil.
